Rift & Quartered Southern Pecan Flooring
This material is taken from the same Southern Pecan (Carya illinoensis) logs that make our plainsawn Pecan flooring. The flooring will tend to have more heartwood than plainsawn Pecan, with many pieces having half or more heartwood running along an edge from end to end of the piece. The appearance is strictly vertical grain, since quartered Pecan does not exhibit any figure from ray fleck. It is used both for its appearance and to promote stability in service since this flooring is less prone to movement from changes in moisture content.

Select Rift & Quartered Pecan
As in plainsawn, this grade is full of color variation and often marked with birdpeck in many pieces. Pieces will tend to be divided with heartwood running from end to end on one edge and sapwood on the other edge. Knots and wormhole are excluded, but the floor retains an informal character from inclusion of birdpeck and the natural color variation between reddish-brown heartwood and creamy sapwood.
Longer lengths than 7′ are available. Call for pricing.

Character Rift & Quartered Pecan
Only a lightly rustic floor since Pecan lumber tends to have few knots, Character Rift & Quartered Pecan flooring will have birdpeck, pin wormholes, variation in sapwood from cream to grey, and the occasional bark pocket or sound knot. It will tend to have more reddish-brown heartwood than in Select. Rift & Quartered Pecan is a good choice when stability of dimension in service is important, whether in dry Rocky Mountain climates or in a moist Gulf Coast setting.
